Elise
Elise graduated from Cornell University, where she made the Dean’s List for top academic achievement. She double majored in Psychology and Media Arts. At Cornell, she ran the undergraduate division of the Social Psychology Lab, where her research focused on the spotlight effect, the liking gap, judgment and decision-making, and first impressions. Outside of the classroom, she also performed in many theater productions and directed and produced her own dance show her senior year.
Elise was born in the Silicon Valley, where she attended competitive private high school Menlo School. She was a National Merit Scholar and scored within the top 1-2% on the SAT and on several SAT subject tests, including Biology and English. She also earned all 4’s and 5’s on her AP tests in high school, in subjects ranging from French to Studio Art. She prides herself on her versatility as a scholar and her broad range of academic capabilities.
Given her experience, she knows the study skills necessary to succeed in competitive academic environments and what it takes to do well on standardized tests. She has tutored elementary schoolers, high schoolers, and college students, in both the humanities and STEM. She also has experience with standardized test prep and college essay writing.
She places great importance on close student-educator relationships and takes a holistic approach when it comes to education. Given her psychology background, she believes strongly in the individual needs of different brain types, and tailoring to the specific learning styles of each person. Beyond test scores and GPA, education should be about instilling confidence and a love for learning in the student, so that they are motivated to develop their passions and cultivate their own sense of success.
