Somewhat unexpectedly, I became a tutor. Beginning in eighth grade, I found that I studied best when I helped other students study as well. In high school, I found myself continuing to study by teaching others and began to cultivate a community of fellow students asking for my help in their classes. By the time I was a sophomore in high school, my tutoring abilities finally became obvious to me and I realized my potential to make school more enjoyable and rewarding for others by facilitating effective studying practices. Since then, I have been tutoring students across a range of subjects all the way throughout college. However, as a student majoring in Communications at UCLA, I am most confident in my ability to help others within the English, reading, and writing world.
Like most tutors, my goal is to help students gain a clear picture and understanding of the subject at hand. While this is my primary goal, I also strive to help students come away with a better attitude towards something that may have previously been a source of pain for them. In this way, I prefer to tutor students by investigating what their individual obstacles may be, and then coming up with personal solutions to guide them beyond these hurdles and flourish academically.
